Patrick Mattimoe (1856-1911)
Patrick was born in Agharacca on the border of Co. Sligo and Co. Roscommon to the North of Boyle. He was probably born at his fathers farm at Carrigeenroe crossroads to the north of Lough Key.
Patrick arrived in Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham England, with his parents, Thomas and Ann, and his two brothers, John and Thomas, in 1867. The family soon moved to the hamlet of Gordon Gill just above Ramshaw.
Patrick immediately found work in the mines, probably as a putter before becoming a hewer.
He married Mary Ann Rutter in 1882 and moved the short distance to Bowes Close situated on the hill leading out of Ramshaw towards Toft Hill. They had two children, Stephen and Jane.
Patrick was a well respected member of his community and when he died in 1911 the local newspaper carried a warm tribute to him.
Mary Ann died in 1939.
