Thomas & Ann Mattimoe c.1870
This photograph was taken only a few years after Thomas and Ann had left Ireland and were still living in Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham. It is safe to assume a few copies were sent back to the family in Ireland to demonstrate how they were prospering after their move from the 'Home Country'. Ann is dressed fashionably for the time and probably made the dress herself. Thomas's suit looks slightly too large for him and might have been borrowed for the occasion, possibly from the photographer.
